Welcome to the Be Smart, Strong and Safe website!

The Canadian Centre for Child Protection is pleased to be able to partner with teachers and parents across Canada to educate children to be smarter, stronger and safer in both the online and real worlds.

Here you will find a variety of tools and resources to help educate Grades 5 and 6 children about sexual abuse, including the new Be Smart, Strong and Safe activity booklet. Through a number of fun and interesting activities, children will learn how to identify inappropriate behavior and how to talk to a trusted adult when something makes them feel uncomfortable.

Child Sexual Abuse Education: A National Priority

When the Canadian Centre for Child Protection released its research report: Child Sexual Abuse Images: an analysis of websites by Cybertip.ca in November 2009, it became very clear that there was a critical need for child sexual abuse education. (To access a copy of the Child Sexual Abuse Images: an analysis of websites by Cybertip.ca report, please click here.)

With the majority of the images analyzed for this report depicting children under the age of 12, child sexual abuse education is essential for this age group. Teaching children to recognize signs of abuse and about the importance of disclosing to a trusted adult if they are being abused or photographed inappropriately, is imperative. As a result, with support from Bell, we have developed the Be Smart, Strong & Safe campaign for Grade 5 and 6 students.

You can download a copy of the activity booklet and the four lesson plans that go along with it by clicking on the buttons to the left. In addition, you can access other valuable child personal safety resources for Grade 5 and Grade 6 students by visiting our Resources page.
