  • Females accounted for 85% of victims of sexual assault who reported to police services.
  • Over half of all victims (61%) of sexual offences were children and youth under 18 years of age.
  • Rates of sexual offences known to police were highest among girls aged 11-17.
  • Among male victims, rates were highest for boys 3-14 years of age. In incidents involving children under the age of 12, boys made up 29% of victims.
  • Approximately half of sexual assault victims who reported to police services were assaulted by a friend or acquaintance. Youth aged 12-17 were most frequently victimized by acquaintances.
  • Rates of dating violence reported to the police suggest that girls under the age of 17 have the highest rate of sexual violence by a dating partner.
